We test the phone to confirm the fault, fit a new cable and test the display and sound again. We replace the damaged cable, rather than patch it.
The main flex cable connects parts on the two sides of the folding phone. It moves whenever the phone folds and unfolds, so use and accidental damage can affect it over time. There is no fixed number of folds at which every cable fails, and age alone does not prove it is faulty.
Common main flex cable symptoms
A faulty main flex connection can leave the large inner LCD screen blank when the phone is unfolded, or the external small LCD screen blank when it is folded. Both LCD screens may also be blank. These examples concern a possible connection fault: a physically damaged LCD screen can be blank for a different reason and will not be repaired by replacing the cable.
Sound may stop when the phone is folded or unfolded, including while watching YouTube or Facebook. Display and sound problems may also happen together. Startup loops or unavailable Wi-Fi can occur with a connection problem, but none of these symptoms alone proves that the main flex cable is faulty.

Or you can approve the quoted cost of replacing both the LCD screen and main flex cable. Putting the phone back together will not repair a damaged LCD screen.
We do not add an LCD screen replacement without your agreement. Main flex cable replacement usually takes around 2–4 hours. The three-month warranty covers only the main flex cable we replaced, not the LCD screen or other parts. New physical or liquid damage is not covered.
